There is not only much to explore and experience in Eyemouth itself, but also many interesting places close by.
Coldingham Sands beach TD14 5PA (10 minutes up the coast)
This beautiful Blue Flag beach stretches for a kilometre within Coldingham Bay. – ideal for surfing, swimming, and family fun. There is a rocky shore at either end of the beach. It is situated within the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve and hermit crabs can be seen in the rock pools. There are many paths around the surrounding coastline which provide excellent views of the beach. Coastal grassland on the beach supports flowers such as restharrow and butterflies such as the small copper. It is close to St Abbs village and harbour. Thousands of cliff nesting birds can be seen at the nearby St Abbs Head Nature Reserve.
St Abbs harbour TD14 5PL boasts a favourite cafe of ours, Ebbcarrs Cafe, offering local delicacies such as Cullen skink, mackerel pate and cheesy chips along side a fabulous selection of tray bakes.
Berwick Upon Tweed
The last major town in England when travelling to Scotland on the A1. Berwick is only 9 miles from Eyemouth and is reached in 15 minutes by car or around 20 minutes by public bus. The town hosts many interesting and diverse shops, cafes and restaurants.
Visit the historic town of Alnwick (39 miles from Eyemouth), where its impressive Castle was extensively featured in the filming of the Harry Potter series.
Bamburgh (28 miles from Eyemouth) hosts an impressive Castle and a picturesque coastal Championship golf Course.
Lindisfarne island (24 miles from Eyemouth), with its castle, monastery and mead production and sales, souvenir shops, cafes, etc. Warning: Lindisfarne Island can only be reached or left during low tide (tide timetable is displayed at the entrance to the vehicle causeway).
North Berwick (33 miles from Eyemouth and approximately half-way between Eyemouth and Edinburgh) with a wide beach front, outdoor paddling pool, cafes, restaurants and shops and world famous golf course.
Edinburgh (50 miles from Eyemouth) which is the seat of the Scottish parliament and hosts Edinburgh Castle (home to the Edinburgh annual Tattoo) and the Palace of Holyroodhouse – the official residence of His majesty the King in Scotland.
There are of course many smaller borders region towns and villages in closer reach to Eyemouth which have their own attractions and are well worth a visit including Duns, Dunbar, St.Abbs and Coldingham.
